Role Context
The Cloud Security Engineer – Hybrid Platforms will help protect business systems, applications, networks, and cloud workloads by maintaining essential defensive technologies and supporting continuous security improvement. The position combines operational responsibility with hands‑on learning across network security, cloud‑native controls, incident handling, vulnerability remediation, scripting, and infrastructure automation. Working within the Cloud Security Platforms team, the engineer will coordinate with infrastructure operations, governance, DevOps, application teams, and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily operational support for security technologies deployed across cloud, on‑premises, and hybrid environments.
- Administer and monitor network firewalls from platforms such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Check Point, and Fortinet.
- Support web application firewall technologies including Cloudflare, F5, and Imperva.
- Maintain cloud security groups, access policies, filtering rules, and native cloud protection services.
- Assist with security configurations across Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Amazon Web Services.
- Monitor alerts generated by firewalls, web application firewalls, cloud services, and centralized security platforms.
- Record security incidents accurately and preserve relevant technical information for investigation.
- Participate in initial incident analysis, containment activities, response coordination, and escalation.
- Follow established incident‑management procedures while communicating clearly with affected technical teams.
- Support vulnerability management by keeping security systems and supporting tools on approved stable releases.
- Review identified weaknesses and coordinate remediation activity with infrastructure, application, and governance teams.
- Track vulnerabilities through resolution and help confirm that corrective controls have been implemented.
- Assist with the deployment and configuration of new security platforms, policies, and technical controls.
- Participate in security projects involving cloud migration, application protection, network segmentation, and access governance.
- Automate repetitive security administration and reporting tasks where practical.
- Use Python or PowerShell to support data collection, configuration checks, and operational workflows.
- Contribute to Terraform‑based deployment and management of cloud security configurations.
- Help maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, configuration records, and support guides.
- Supply evidence and system information for internal reviews, risk assessments, and security audits.
- Collaborate with InfraOps and DevOps teams to incorporate security checks into deployment and operational processes.
- Work with governance teams to align technical security controls with policies, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Apply Zero Trust and least privilege principles when reviewing access, network, and cloud configurations.
- Support defenses against distributed denial‑of‑service attacks, SQL injection, unauthorized access, and common cloud threats.
- Identify recurring operational issues and recommend improvements to strengthen security resilience and efficiency.
- Continue developing technical expertise across cloud security, network protection, automation, and incident response.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
- 1‑3 years of experience in IT security, network administration, cloud operations, or a comparable technical role.
- Sound understanding of core cybersecurity concepts and common defensive controls.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, or Amazon Web Services.
- Basic familiarity with Defender for Cloud, Identity and Access Management, Security Groups, GuardDuty, and Microsoft Sentinel.
- Hands‑on exposure to enterprise firewalls and web application firewall platforms.
- Understanding of network addressing, routing, ports, protocols, access rules, and traffic filtering.
- Awareness of Zero Trust, least privilege, identity security, network segmentation, and defense‑in‑depth practices.
- Familiarity with threats such as distributed denial‑of‑service attacks, SQL injection, credential misuse, and unauthorized access.
- Basic incident response and vulnerability remediation experience.
- Scripting exposure using Python or PowerShell is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Terraform or another infrastructure automation tool is preferred.
- Strong analytical ability and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Clear communication skills for working with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage assigned responsibilities independently while contributing effectively within a team.
