Job summary

Astek Middle East is seeking an experienced Cloud Architect to join our Dubai delivery team. You will shape cloud architectures for industrial environments, enabling secure data movement from on-prem plants to cloud platforms and dashboards for analytics and remote operations.

You will work with PI System/AVEVA, SCADA and MES data, and leverage Azure, AWS and/or GCP to support future AI, predictive maintenance and digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional IT/technology experience.
• At least 3 years specifically designing cloud architectures.
• Hands-on experience with industrial/OT data environments such as PI System/AVEVA, SCADA, MES or OPC UA.
• Fluent English (C1+) and client-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable cloud architectures using Azure, AWS and/or GCP for industrial environments.
• Architect solutions enabling the flow of plant data from historians and SCADA systems to cloud data platforms and dashboards.
• Define cloud data architectures to support industrial analytics, AI initiatives and predictive maintenance.
• Collaborate with OT teams, stakeholders and clients to translate requirements into cloud architectures.
• Present and defend proposed architectures to clients and technical stakeholders.
• Ensure architectures are secure, scalable and compliant with in-country data residency requirements.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Architect to join our Middle East delivery team and support major digitalization initiatives within the industrial, energy and oil & gas environment.

The role will focus on designing cloud architectures that enable industrial and operational data to move securely from on-premise plant environments to cloud-based data platforms, supporting advanced analytics, remote operations, AI and predictive maintenance use cases.

This is not a traditional business IT architecture role. The successful candidate will have strong experience working with industrial/OT data and technologies, including SCADA, MES, PI System/AVEVA, OPC UA, MQTT and IIoT.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable cloud architectures using Azure, AWS and/or GCP for industrial and operational environments.
• Architect solutions enabling the flow of plant data from historians and SCADA systems through MES and data platforms to cloud environments and remote control-center dashboards.
• Define cloud data architectures supporting industrial analytics, operational intelligence and future AI initiatives.
• Work with technologies such as PI System/AVEVA, SCADA, MES, OPC UA, MQTT and IIoT.
• Design cloud-based data platforms incorporating technologies such as Azure IoT, Databricks, data lakes and time-series data platforms.
• Consider and address in-country data residency and deployment requirements when designing cloud solutions.
• Collaborate with technical teams, industrial stakeholders and end clients to understand requirements and translate them into appropriate cloud architectures.
• Present, explain and defend proposed architectures directly to end clients and technical stakeholders.
• Ensure architectures are scalable, secure and aligned with industrial operational requirements.
• Prepare the architecture foundation for future AI, machine learning and predictive maintenance use cases.
• Contribute architectural expertise to digital transformation projects across industrial environments.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional IT/technology experience, including at least 3 years specifically designing cloud architectures.
• Proven experience designing cloud architectures, rather than exclusively administering or operating cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with industrial/OT data environments, including one or more of:
• PI System / AVEVA
• SCADA
• MES
• OPC UA
• MQTT
• IIoT
• Strong understanding of cloud data platforms, particularly:
• Databricks
• Data Lakes
• Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience translating complex technical requirements into scalable cloud architecture.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present and defend architecture decisions to clients.
• Fluent English (C1+) and comfortable working in client-facing environments.
• Ability to work within industrial and operational technology environments.

Nice to Have

• AZ-305 – Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
• AWS Solutions Architect – Professional certification.
• Experience in energy, oil & gas or process industries.
• Knowledge of OT cybersecurity / IEC 62443.
• Experience with industrial AI/ML and predictive maintenance.
