Position Summary

To provide specialist nephrology nursing care, focusing on ensuring a seamless service for dialysis patients, whilst maintaining and developing quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Direct junior and auxiliary team members
  • Provide safe quality ethical nursing care in accordance with the Hospital, international and federal standards and regulations
  • Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)
  • Complies with all UHS policies, procedures and fire regulations
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS to attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • Performs nursing practice in line with the facility, MOH, JCI and FDON policies, procedures and standards
  • Takes charge of the Critical Care department in the absence of the Manager
  • Assumes team leader (Charge) responsibility for shift duty completing tasks as allocated
  • Adapts to changing work situations by adjusting staff assignment and/or seeking assistance from the Manager ensuring patient safety is maintained and scope of practice and hospital policies are not violated
  • Ensures nurse: patient ratios are maintained whilst on duty, highlighting significant problems to Nurse Manager or Supervisor
  • Allocates specific tasks to other nursing staff as required
  • Provides mentorship to new staff throughout their orientation period
  • Participates in performance plans with individual staff members, meeting with staff, reviewing practice concerns, providing required education, documenting performance plan outcomes and recommendations as assigned by manager
  • Participates in annual staff appraisals for Nursing Assistants and Staff nurses as assigned by Manager
  • Reviews yearly competencies with junior staff as assigned by Manager
  • Performs regular inspections with Manager to ensure quality patient care, reporting any deficiencies and taking appropriate action to resolve
  • Prepares and submits statistical data as requested by Manager or Supervisor
  • Maintains relevant unit KPIs as requested by Manager or Supervisor
  • Participates in recruitment and selection as assigned by Manager
  • Investigates and evaluates Incident reports, taking necessary and appropriate action, including completion of documentation and reporting to appropriate personnel
  • Participates in the provision of a safe and positive workplace by enhancing occupational health and safety requirements, as well as monitoring the operations and continuous improvement of the safety management system
  • Attends assigned committees and reports back to department
  • Participates in the CNE programme, delivering education as requested to the nursing department as well as in–house education to the Dialysis staff
  • Acts as clinical resource providing support for patient care and departmental operational concerns for all junior staff
  • Assess, plan, implements and evaluates the nursing care of each dialysis patient
  • Prioritizes patients’ individual needs and delegates aspects of nursing care to other nursing team members within his/her scope of professional practice
  • Commence, monitor and complete dialysis session (including needling) ensuring nephrologist orders have been followed
  • Adheres to hospital policy on the administering transfusions as required
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a BSc Nursing / Diploma of Nursing, not less than 3 years study duration
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduation experience with at least 2 years in current specialty (Dialysis)
Desirable
  • BLS certificate
  • Advanced Life support
Position Criteria / Other Skills
  • 5 years post graduate experience
  • Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English, spoken Arabic an advantage
