The patient aide will work to support the nursing staff in providing for the everyday needs of residents and their families.
Responsibilities
- Support residents and their families by providing housekeeping, laundry services, preparing food, and running errands.
- Assist residents with personal services such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Assist nurses with manual handling of residents and bathing.
- Play with children under the supervision of nurses and therapists where appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by ensuring rooms are clean and tidy.
- Support nursing staff by running errands as needed.
- Ensure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
- Assist residents and nurses during external trips.
- Participate in residents' social activities.
- Communicate effectively with a range of people on various matters.
- Communicate appropriately and clearly with coworkers and the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the facility.
- Develop personal skills and knowledge continuously.
- Attend training sessions offered by the long-term care facility.
- Dress appropriately according to work area expectations and safety policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information in line with facility policies.
- Participate as a supportive team member and attend meetings as required.
- Maintain quality in own work and adhere to health, safety, and infection control policies.
- Understand and follow emergency, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.
- Report supply shortfalls and missing items to registered nurses.
- Support and promote equality and diversity, challenging bias and prejudice when appropriate.
- Be aware of how personal behaviors impact others.
- Comply with all occupational health, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and risk assessments.
- Follow waste management and safety procedures.
- Attend relevant health and safety, infection control training, and drills.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
- Diploma in a relevant field.
- At least one year of experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in nanny or homecare support roles.
- Experience as a caregiver or similar role.
- Experience working with Arabic children.
- Average command of oral and written English; Arabic language skills are desirable but not mandatory.
