Job description

The patient aide will work to support the nursing staff in providing for the everyday needs of residents and their families.

Responsibilities
  1. Support residents and their families by providing housekeeping, laundry services, preparing food, and running errands.
  2. Assist residents with personal services such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  3. Assist nurses with manual handling of residents and bathing.
  4. Play with children under the supervision of nurses and therapists where appropriate.
  5. Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by ensuring rooms are clean and tidy.
  6. Support nursing staff by running errands as needed.
  7. Ensure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
  8. Assist residents and nurses during external trips.
  9. Participate in residents' social activities.
  10. Communicate effectively with a range of people on various matters.
  11. Communicate appropriately and clearly with coworkers and the multidisciplinary team.
  12. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the facility.
  13. Develop personal skills and knowledge continuously.
  14. Attend training sessions offered by the long-term care facility.
  15. Dress appropriately according to work area expectations and safety policies.
  16. Maintain confidentiality of all information in line with facility policies.
  17. Participate as a supportive team member and attend meetings as required.
  18. Maintain quality in own work and adhere to health, safety, and infection control policies.
  19. Understand and follow emergency, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.
  20. Report supply shortfalls and missing items to registered nurses.
  21. Support and promote equality and diversity, challenging bias and prejudice when appropriate.
  22. Be aware of how personal behaviors impact others.
  23. Comply with all occupational health, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  24. Participate in emergency preparedness and risk assessments.
  25. Follow waste management and safety procedures.
  26. Attend relevant health and safety, infection control training, and drills.
  27. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in a relevant field.
  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in nanny or homecare support roles.
  • Experience as a caregiver or similar role.
  • Experience working with Arabic children.
  • Average command of oral and written English; Arabic language skills are desirable but not mandatory.
