The Biology Manager at World Butterfly Park isresponsible for overseeing the biological and ecological health of thebutterfly garden. This includes managing the butterfly populations, plants, andother wildlife, ensuring a sustainable and educational environment forvisitors. The Biology Manager will work closely with staff, volunteers, andresearchers to maintain the garden's ecosystems and support conservation andeducational programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Butterfly and Wildlife Management:
- Oversee the care andbreeding of various butterfly species.
- Monitor butterflypopulations and implement measures to ensure their health andsustainability.
- Maintain accurate recordsof butterfly life cycles, health, and behavior.
Plant and Habitat Management:- Manage the planting,growth, and maintenance of butterfly-friendly flora.
- Ensure habitats aresuitable for butterfly development and survival.
- Coordinate withhorticulturists to ensure a balanced ecosystem.
Research and Conservation:- Conduct and supportresearch projects related to butterfly biology and conservation.
- Collaborate withuniversities, research institutions, and conservation organizations.
- Implement conservationprograms to protect native butterfly species and their habitats.
Educational Programs:- Develop and delivereducational programs and materials for visitors, schools, and communitygroups.
- Conduct tours, workshops,and presentations to promote awareness of butterfly biology andconservation.
- Create informationaldisplays and resources for the garden.
Staff and Volunteer Management:- Supervise and train staff,interns, and volunteers in biological and ecological practices.
- Coordinate schedules andtasks to ensure efficient garden operations.
- Foster a collaborative andeducational work environment.
Administration:- Prepare reports on gardenactivities, research findings, and conservation efforts.
- Develop and manage budgetsfor biological and ecological projects.
- Ensure compliance withlocal, state, and federal regulations related to wildlife and habitatmanagement.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, Ecology,Environmental Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience inwildlife management, conservation, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of butterfly species,their life cycles, and habitats.
- Experience in managing plants andecosystems in a controlled environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication,and leadership skills.
- Ability to conduct and supervise researchprojects.
- Passion for conservation and education.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with occasionalweekend and evening work required.
- Work primarily outdoors in variousweather conditions.
