Qualifications

• Previous barista experience in a café, restaurant, hotel or similar hospitality environment.
• Solid knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso techniques.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Good attention to beverage quality and details.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Positive attitude, professional appearance and team spirit.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks and teas according to recipes and standards.
• Operate espresso machines, grinders, blenders and other café equipment safely.
• Provide friendly, attentive and professional service to all guests.
• Take customer orders and process payments as required.
• Maintain consistent beverage quality, presentation and temperature.
• Recommend menu items and assist customers with beverage choices.
• Prepare and replenish coffee, milk, syrups, garnishes and ingredients.
• Follow hygiene, safety and sanitation procedures at all times.
• Maintain cleanliness of bar, service areas and equipment.
• Monitor stock levels and inform supervisor of shortages.
• Follow opening/closing and equipment-maintenance procedures.
• Assist with other operational duties during busy periods.

Role Overview

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and café products while delivering warm, efficient, and consistent customer service. The role ensures that all drinks meet Café Kira’s quality, presentation, and service standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming café environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve espresso-based coffee, specialty beverages, teas, and other café drinks according to established recipes and standards.
• Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other café equipment safely and efficiently.
• Provide friendly, attentive, and professional service to all guests.
• Take customer orders accurately and process cash, card, and other payments when required.
• Maintain consistent beverage quality, taste, temperature, and presentation.
• Recommend menu items and assist customers with beverage selections based on their preferences.
• Prepare and replenish coffee, milk, syrups, garnishes, and other ingredients as required.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures at all times.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, service areas, equipment, and workstations.
• Monitor stock levels and inform the supervisor of shortages or replenishment requirements.
• Follow proper opening, closing, cleaning, and equipment-maintenance procedures.
• Handle customer requests, feedback, and concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
• Support the wider café team during busy periods and assist with other operational duties as required.
• Adhere to Café Kira’s policies, procedures, grooming standards, and service expectations.
