Job description

AECOM's Urbanism Planning studio is currently seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Associate Urban Designer to join our dynamic team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. As a key member of our urban design department, you will contribute to shaping the future of our rapidly growing city and region.

Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with senior designers and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive urban design solutions.
  2. Create conceptual designs, master plans, and detailed site plans for various urban development projects.
  3. Assist in the preparation of design guidelines, zoning regulations, and urban design policies.
  4. Lead urban design project deliverables in line with applicable planning authorities and client requirements, ensuring compliance with scope of work and contracts.
  5. Understand the scopes of Architecture, Urban Design, and Landscape, including their synergies and overlaps on projects and in the studio.
  6. Develop new urban design and building typologies applicable to projects and site conditions, tailoring design responses accordingly.
  7. Communicate urban design ideas clearly through reports and presentations, and guide/mentor team members in effective report writing.
  8. Participate in UP steering committees that promote integration, knowledge sharing, digital integration, or diversity and inclusion.
  9. Support bid requirements by contributing to technical approaches, methodologies, and delivery structures, including commercial aspects of bids.
  10. Assist with business development initiatives, manage client relationships, and set expectations.
  11. Contribute to proposals and technical write-ups for bids.
  12. Coordinate with clients to discuss work scope, support project execution, and incorporate client feedback.
  13. Present progress and design principles to clients, senior leadership, and stakeholders.
  14. Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure fully integrated and coordinated design deliverables.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Design.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the urban design field.
  3. Proficiency in urban design software, including AutoCAD and SketchUp.
  4. Strong visual communication skills, capable of creating compelling 3D models and renderings.
  5. Knowledge of sustainable urban development practices.
  6. Familiarity with Dubai and UAE building codes and regulations.
  7. Understanding of Dubai and Middle East urban landscape and development trends.
  8. Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  10. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
  11. Creativity and passion for innovative urban design solutions.
  12. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
