Job Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites qualified, outstanding candidates to apply for a full-time faculty position as Assistant/Associate Professor in Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineering. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in a related civil engineering field. A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is a must. The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor; however, filling the position at the rank of Assistant Professor is preferred.

The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to the discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service. We seek applicants who work at the frontiers of their research areas and can complement existing research expertise within the Department, the College of Engineering, and the University. Research areas of particular interest include but are not limited to soil-structure interaction, geo-environmental, geotextiles, soil remediation, geomaterials, and environmental sustainability.

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in Civil Engineering related areas as well as to assist in delivering basic engineering courses. The candidate must have demonstrated potential for effective teaching, independent research, and scholarly activities. English is the language of instruction and communication at the College of Engineering. Successful candidates will have access to world-class laboratory facilities, a strong pool of graduate students, and internal research grant funding opportunities, including a startup research grant. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Research Centers within the University. The start date is August 2025.

Expected Duties

  1. Teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and supervise capstone graduation projects in geotechnical/geo-environmental Engineering.
  2. Attract externally funded research projects and conduct original research that leads to publications in top-ranked international journals.
  3. Contribute to advising and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervising M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.
  4. Provide services to the community, the society, and the university.
  5. Play an active role in promoting the growth of the College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University.

Minimum Qualification
Applicants must hold a PhD Degree in Civil Engineering from a reputable international University. The candidate's B.Sc. degree must be in Civil Engineering. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualification
Preferred qualifications include the demonstration of the following:
  1. Track record of high-quality publications in leading international journals in geotechnical/geo-environmental engineering.
  2. Ability to develop independent research, secure research funds, and establish a strong network with industrial partners.
  3. Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and develop new courses or course components.
  4. Strong communication skills and ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
