Overview

Birmingham Law School – University of Birmingham Dubai campus is seeking a senior academic leader to serve as Head of Department for the Law School in Dubai. This full‑time position offers a competitive package and the chance to lead teaching, research and management activities in a world‑top 100 university.

Main Duties
  • Deliver teaching and learning at undergraduate level and contribute to the design and delivery of programmes, including the Bachelor of Commercial Law.
  • Develop and lead innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including curriculum design at module and programme level.
  • Produce high quality research and scholarship that informs teaching practice and contributes to the discipline.
  • Lead management and administration of the department, including staff recruitment, resource management and committee representation.
  • Represent the School on College and University committees and contribute to enterprise, public engagement and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues and support academic citizenship.
Person Specification
  • Doctoral degree in law or equivalent, an LLM is essential for candidates without a PhD.
  • Demonstrated excellence in Learning and Teaching, strong scholarship and research record.
  • Experience in management or administration of academic units and leading teams.
  • Evidence of commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and widening participation.
Learning and Teaching Requirements

Applicants should have a strong teaching profile, with evidence of impact and quality, and experience of integrating research into teaching.
