Role Context The Associate Landscape Architect takes ownership of landscape projects from design development through technical delivery while helping translate ambitious concepts into buildable, commercially viable environments. The position requires an understanding of public realm standards, planting, irrigation, regional conditions and the technical coordination needed to deliver integrated landscape schemes. The role also extends into studio development. Through design reviews, digital innovation, bid preparation, quality control and mentorship, the Associate will help strengthen design capability while supporting junior professionals and promoting new approaches to landscape architecture across the wider team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate multiple medium-sized landscape architecture projects with increasing independence and accountability.
  • Establish appropriate project team structures, responsibilities and resource deployment in line with available fees and delivery requirements.
  • Act as a technical lead while coordinating landscape requirements with architecture, engineering and specialist disciplines.
  • Manage client meetings and maintain clear communication around design priorities, deliverables and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate submissions between clients, consultants, subconsultants and internal project teams.
  • Lead design workshops, creative reviews and project discussions for live commissions and competitions.
  • Apply relevant public realm design standards consistently across landscape projects.
  • Contribute to studio design discussions and help establish strong design drivers for individual commissions.
  • Balance creative ambition with client objectives, technical constraints, project budgets and delivery programs.
  • Independently prepare and coordinate complete landscape technical packages with appropriate senior review.
  • Apply regional planting and irrigation standards to landscape design development.
  • Advance landscape concepts from initial design thinking into coordinated and technically deliverable solutions.
  • Encourage innovative design approaches and strengthen the quality of landscape presentations and graphics.
  • Explore digital design tools and emerging workflows that can improve landscape design, coordination and communication.
  • Contribute to internal research and development initiatives related to landscape architecture.
  • Support reviews of landscape cost plans and assess design decisions against commercial requirements.
  • Maintain landscape project libraries, capability statements and representative project sheets.
  • Participate in site activities and help resolve landscape design and construction issues during implementation.
  • Assist with project financial reporting and monitor the commercial status of assigned work.
  • Prepare change orders and variation documentation in coordination with Project Managers and Project Directors.
  • Provide project workload and resource information for studio planning meetings.
  • Coordinate landscape bids and proposals, including technical approaches, methodologies, delivery structures and commercial inputs.
  • Perform systematic self-checks and review project deliverables against applicable QA and QC procedures.
  • Identify capability requirements and contribute to recruitment activities where additional resources are needed.
  • Mentor junior landscape professionals and provide practical guidance on design, technical development and project delivery.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate will bring at least 10 years of professional landscape architecture experience with demonstrated capability in design development, technical delivery and multidisciplinary project coordination. A bachelor 's degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design or a relevant discipline is required, while postgraduate study will be advantageous. Candidates should understand public realm design, planting strategies, irrigation requirements, landscape detailing and regional design standards. Experience taking responsibility for complete technical packages and coordinating them with other disciplines is particularly important. Commercial awareness is also valuable, including exposure to project fees, cost plans, variations, proposals and resource planning. The position requires confidence when communicating with clients and the ability to guide design teams without losing sight of project objectives. Progress toward professional membership in Architecture, Urban Design or an equivalent relevant discipline is preferred. Applicants should provide a portfolio that clearly demonstrates landscape architecture design capability and completed project experience.
