Job Description:

Assistant Resident Engineer Structural (Bridges/Underpasses) - Operation & Maintenance

Location: Abu Dhabi

Parsons is seeking a talented Assistant Resident Engineer Structural (Bridges & Underpasses) to join our Operations & Maintenance team in Abu Dhabi. This role involves providing on-site guidance for structural works.

What You'll Be Doing:

  1. Ensure all plans are approved according to procedures and the DOA matrix.
  2. Monitor progress and identify potential issues affecting timelines or quality.
  3. Track project-related work progress.
  4. Follow up on the closure of completed projects.
  5. Review draft variation orders before submission to the governance team.
  6. Review draft work orders before submission to the governance team.
  7. Monitor tendering plans and report progress.
  8. Participate in tender evaluations within the technical departments.
  9. Design and construct structures that are safe, durable, and capable of withstanding environmental elements, while improving existing structures' integrity.
  10. Assist the resident engineer in issuing site instructions related to civil and structural works.
  11. Act as the job originator for ADM related to structural works.
  12. Lead design calculations and bridge design using CAD software, adhering to AASHTO LRFD or equivalent standards.
  13. Review complex and non-standard structure details, including highway and railroad bridges.
  14. Review and process contractor submittals such as shop drawings, technical submittals, test reports, progress reports, method statements, transmittals, post-tensioning reports, material submittals, post-tensioning elongation calculations, and RFIs.
  15. Prepare contract bid documents, including final plans, specifications, and cost estimates for structural work orders.
  16. Conduct site visits for bridge inspections, condition verification, and construction support.
  17. Coordinate with other transportation disciplines like design, surveying, roadway, drainage, and planning.
  18. Develop technical and cost proposals.
  19. Perform ongoing site inspections and issue remedial notes for observed defects.
  20. Mentor junior engineers and inspectors.
  21. Develop construction plans, cost estimates, specifications, and bid documents.

Required Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
  2. Equivalency certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education indicating the degree.
  3. Minimum 10 years of experience in maintenance of structures (bridges & underpasses) in the UAE.
  4. Strong knowledge of contractual relationships.
  5. Proficiency in computer technology for data access, record keeping, and reporting.
