Role Context
The Assistant Manager supports the smooth performance of housekeeping operations across guest rooms, suites, public areas, and associated service spaces. The position helps ensure rooms are released on time, cleaning standards remain consistent, and operational priorities are aligned with daily arrivals, stayovers, departures, VIP movements, and occupancy levels. A major part of the role is translating resort standards into reliable day-to-day execution. This includes supervising teams, monitoring productivity, addressing service gaps, coordinating maintenance requirements, controlling supplies, and developing colleagues so that housekeeping performance contributes directly to guest comfort and the overall luxury experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily housekeeping activities across assigned guest room and public area operations.
- Monitor room turnover to support timely arrivals and efficient accommodation readiness.
- Review occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, and VIP requirements when planning daily resources.
- Prepare and adjust rosters according to workload, staffing availability, and operational priorities.
- Conduct shift briefings and communicate service expectations, guest priorities, and departmental updates.
- Allocate housekeeping assignments and monitor completion throughout the shift.
- Track productivity levels and identify opportunities to improve efficiency without reducing quality.
- Inspect guest rooms, suites, corridors, and public areas against established resort standards.
- Conduct quality audits and follow up on deficiencies with the responsible colleagues.
- Coordinate room readiness closely with Front Office.
- Work with VIP Services and Guest Services to prepare rooms for high-profile and special-category guests.
- Liaise with Facilities and Maintenance regarding technical defects identified during room inspections or cleaning activities.
- Monitor HotSOS requests and ensure housekeeping-related tasks are completed within required timelines.
- Follow up on outstanding maintenance issues that could affect room availability or guest comfort.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance access for guest rooms and operational spaces.
- Maintain deep cleaning schedules and track completion of planned cleaning activities.
- Organize special cleaning projects based on occupancy patterns and property requirements.
- Monitor linen, amenities, cleaning materials, and operational supply consumption.
- Support stock controls and report shortages or abnormal usage.
- Ensure housekeeping storerooms and service areas remain organized and adequately supplied.
- Respond to guest concerns professionally and take prompt action to restore satisfaction.
- Maintain a visible operational presence and interact proactively with guests when appropriate.
- Escalate significant service or maintenance issues to senior housekeeping leadership.
- Coach supervisors, attendants, and other housekeeping colleagues during daily operations.
- Deliver or coordinate practical training on cleaning standards, procedures, productivity, and service expectations.
- Support colleague performance reviews and development discussions.
- Address performance concerns and contribute to improvement or disciplinary processes where required.
- Encourage teamwork, accountability, and consistent adherence to department procedures.
- Monitor colleague attendance and support effective manpower deployment.
- Ensure departmental practices comply with health and safety requirements.
- Reinforce correct use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory and property compliance requirements affecting housekeeping operations.
- Review operational reports and identify trends affecting cleanliness, room readiness, productivity, or guest feedback.
- Support departmental initiatives designed to improve service quality and colleague engagement.
- Maintain clear communication between housekeeping shifts to ensure accurate operational handovers.
- Assist senior management with additional housekeeping projects and operational priorities when required.
Ideal Profile
- Graduate qualification in Hotel Management is preferred, although candidates with a high school diploma and strong relevant experience may also be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a comparable housekeeping supervisory or assistant management role.
- Previous employment in a luxury five-star hotel or resort environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of guest room cleaning standards and public area housekeeping operations.
- Experienced in room allocation, staffing, roster planning, and productivity management.
- Comfortable conducting room inspections and quality audits.
- Familiar with room turnover processes involving arrivals, stayovers, and departures.
- Experience coordinating housekeeping requirements with Front Office and Maintenance teams.
- Knowledge of HotSOS or comparable hotel operations systems is advantageous.
- Strong capability in coaching, training, and motivating housekeeping teams.
- Confident handling guest concerns and service recovery situations.
- Good understanding of linen, amenities, housekeeping supplies, and stock controls.
- Able to manage multiple operational priorities in a high-occupancy environment.
