The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) is the supervisory and regulatory authority of the banking and insurance sector in the United Arab Emirates. With a mandate to enhance monetary management, safeguard financial stability and protect consumers through effective supervision of licensed financial institutions, prudent reserve management, robust financial infrastructure, and the adoption of digital technologies.
CBUAE is currently looking to hire an individual that will be responsible for supporting the Head of Corporate Governance in developing the corporate/sustainability governance principles of CBUAE, integrating ESG and other sustainability programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage the development and implementation of the corporate and sustainability governance framework for CBUAE within its broader agenda and strategy.
- Lead development of maturity and benchmarking reports on governance vis-à-vis other leading entities.
- Ensure compliance with global governance frameworks, international standards, industry best practices, and internal CBUAE policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Assist in providing administrative and technical advice to the top management and coordinate with relevant stakeholders regarding topics referring to corporate and sustainability governance.
- Ensure that support and assistance are provided to departments of CBUAE with regards to corporate governance issues.
- Provide technical expertise on key issues related to corporate and sustainability governance and associated risks and controls within the design, implementation and monitoring of CBUAE’s operations.
- Establishing policies and procedures regarding corporate governance in CBUAE and follow up on implementation of these documents.
- Ensure issuance and distribution of governance-related decision materials and documentation to all stakeholders and follow up on the implementation of the decisions.
- Manage all department databases including policy documents, meeting minutes, maturity assessment documents, delegations, investigations of compromise/conflict, etc.
- Assist the head of the department in ensuring quality and timeliness of all material and information provided to the Board, Board Sub-Committee, and Executive Committee members related to the Department’s activities.
- Prepare the annual plan for the unit and submit it to the head of corporate governance for approval.
- Assist the head of the corporate governance department to conduct the management training process on governance principles across CBUAE.
- Lead preparation of the corporate governance awareness plan, content, and ensure timely implementation.
- Lead the preparation and review of both internal and external periodic governance reports as per KPIs of the Department.
- Review and provide expertise for thought leadership articles on Corporate and Sustainability Governance, which will be published on the CBUAE website.
- Ensure active participation along with the Head of Corporate Governance Department on all governance matters within domestic and international industry specific forums both domestically and internationally.
- Ensure the systems, practices and procedures that operate within CBUAE reflect a culture of continuous improvement and external good practice.
- Perform any other duties outside the scope as and when required.
Position Specifications:
- Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as, Business Administration/Management/Law/Accounting or a related field or relevant subject.
- Any relevant professional certifications or memberships.
- 9+ years of relevant experience
- Prior experience in large organizations including Corporate Governance, Risk, Sustainability, Legal Advisory, and Internal or External Audit.
