Post: Architectural Technician – 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Position Summary

The Architectural Technician will be working closely under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager. The position requires a high degree of independent decision-making, professionalism, and client management. Within the authority limits, the candidate is expected to be capable of assuming complete accountability for all essential functions and responsibilities. The Project Architect coordinates and exercises functional authority for design management, which includes planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of assigned projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide design sketches, prepare budgets, meet with clients, collect project requirements, develop the scope of work, specifications, cut sheets BOQ.
  • Create designs to meet client specifications.
  • Create and propose budget and time estimations.
  • Act as an intermediary between the client and the design team.
  • Submit reports to keep the client informed about the status of the project.
  • Plan and conduct modifications to complete working drawing sets.
  • Monitor design process from conception to construction administration to ensure consistency of design ideas.
  • Ensure compliance of construction detail documentation with quality control and best practices.
  • Attend field reviews, on-site meetings, and project meetings, and coordinate schedule reviews and submit samples.
  • Engage in team meetings to resolve project issues and coordinate scheduling.
  • Ensure adherence to technical issues.
  • Review accuracy of calculations, estimates, plans, and completed reports.
  • Monitor design process from conception to construction administration to ensure consistency of design ideas.
  • Independently perform assignments and arrive at solutions by receiving instructions on assignment objectives.
  • Monitor preparation of technical drawings of less senior architects.
  • Handle minutes of consultant coordination meetings.
  • Maintain project historical data and document on-site observations and reviews.
  • Draft observation reports during project close-out efforts.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • 4–6 years of experience in the construction of projects that have utilized the International Building Code and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
  • Excellent design and drafting skills, with proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Organizational, project management, and planning skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • An analytical mind with excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Leadership skills, as well as the ability to work well within a team of other professionals.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the candidate may occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The job will generally be performed in an office environment but may require travel to and visits to various stakeholder offices, production facilities, or industrial/construction sites. Conditions may vary in each location, but the latter conditions will generally apply.
  • Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge in the architecture discipline, as well as good knowledge in other related areas.
  • The candidate should be proficient in specification writing and experienced in the use of MasterSpec (U.S. version).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A PMP certification would be an advantage.
