An Architect is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and overseeing architectural projects from initial concept through design development, documentation, construction, and completion. The role combines creative design, technical expertise, project coordination, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder management to deliver functional, safe, sustainable, and visually appropriate buildings and spaces that meet client requirements, budget constraints, applicable standards, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop architectural concepts, designs, layouts, plans, elevations, sections, details, and presentation materials.
- Translate client requirements, project briefs, functional needs, and design objectives into practical architectural solutions.
- Prepare and develop architectural drawings, construction documents, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, measurements, inspections, and site assessments to understand project conditions and requirements.
- Develop conceptual, schematic, design-development, tender, and construction-stage documentation.
- Produce architectural drawings using Auto CAD, Revit, BIM, Sketch Up, or other relevant design software.
- Develop 2D drawings, 3D models, renderings, visualizations, presentations, and design studies.
- Coordinate architectural designs with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, landscape, interior, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review design requirements, building codes, planning regulations, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, fire-safety requirements, and other applicable regulations.
- Prepare drawings and documentation required for authority submissions, approvals, permits, and regulatory reviews.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, engineers, contractors, suppliers, developers, government authorities, and other project stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings, design reviews, coordination meetings, site meetings, and progress meetings.
- Present architectural concepts, design proposals, materials, finishes, layouts, and project solutions to clients and stakeholders.
- Review client feedback and incorporate approved design changes into project documentation.
- Prepare material selections, finish schedules, specifications, design details, and architectural schedules where required.
- Assist with cost planning, quantity coordination, value engineering, budget monitoring, and design optimization.
- Review contractor drawings, shop drawings, material submissions, samples, mock-ups, and technical submittals.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, site instructions, design clarifications, and construction-related issues.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor architectural work, finishes, materials, workmanship, and compliance with approved drawings.
- Identify design discrepancies, construction defects, quality issues, and deviations and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Review construction progress and assist project teams in resolving architectural and technical issues.
- Coordinate design revisions, change requests, variations, and project documentation throughout the construction process.
- Maintain accurate records of drawings, revisions, approvals, submissions, meeting minutes, technical correspondence, and project documentation.
- Ensure architectural designs comply with applicable building codes, planning regulations, health and safety requirements, accessibility standards, and professional standards.
- Support sustainable design initiatives, energy efficiency, environmental considerations, material optimization, and green-building requirements where applicable.
- Assist with feasibility studies, site analysis, planning studies, development proposals, and project assessments.
- Conduct research into materials, construction methods, architectural technologies, building systems, sustainability practices, and design trends.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to ensure architectural materials, finishes, fixtures, and components meet approved specifications.
- Assist with project schedules, design deliverables, documentation deadlines, and construction coordination.
- Manage multiple architectural tasks and projects while maintaining design quality, technical accuracy, and project deadlines.
- Support junior architects, architectural assistants, draftsmen, BIM modelers, and other design team members where required.
- Review and improve architectural drawings, models, documentation, and design outputs for accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain current knowledge of architectural standards, construction technologies, design software, building regulations, and industry best practices.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information, project documentation, design concepts, commercial information, and other sensitive project data.
- Identify opportunities to improve design quality, construction efficiency, sustainability, cost effectiveness, and project outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of architectural design quality, technical documentation, project coordination, construction quality, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, and overall project performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Architectural Design, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Professional architectural registration or license is preferred or required depending on the position and applicable jurisdiction.
- Previous experience in architectural design, building projects, construction, consultancy, real estate development, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of architectural design principles, building systems, construction methods, materials, detailing, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Auto CAD, Revit, BIM, Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite, or other relevant architectural software.
- Strong understanding of building codes, planning regulations, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, fire-safety requirements, and construction standards.
- Experience preparing architectural drawings, construction documentation, specifications, schedules, and authority-submission documents.
- Strong design, visualization, spatial-planning, technical-drawing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in architectural drawings, models, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong communication, presentation, coordination, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and other technical drawings and documentation.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants is advantageous.
- Knowledge of BIM coordination, clash detection, digital modeling, and collaborative design workflows is advantageous.
- Understanding of project management, construction administration, cost control, scheduling, and contract documentation is advantageous.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects, design revisions, deadlines, client requirements, and construction issues.
- Knowledge of sustainable architecture, green-building principles, energy-efficient design, and environmental standards is advantageous.
- Ability to conduct site inspections and assess construction quality, workmanship, materials, and architectural compliance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
- Relevant professional certifications, architectural registration, BIM qualifications, or specialized design credentials are advantageous.
