Job description

Anesthesia Technologist-Clinical Support - Anaesthesia

To systematically prepare anaesthesia sites, uphold safety standards of anaesthesia and associated equipment. Provide skilled assistance for the anaesthesiologist and anesthesia provider, adhering to the roles and responsibilities defined in the Scope of Practice of an anaesthesia technician/technologist.

Required:
BSc in Anesthesia or Registered Nurse with specialized training in anesthesia techniques and equipment or Registered Respiratory Technician with specialized training in anesthetic techniques and equipment, and current National License.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in establishing, maintaining, and recording the functional integrity of all anesthesia equipment, including regular checks and routine inspections by biomedical engineers.
  • Prepare and re-prepare the anesthesia environment daily, including all equipment and materials for procedures.
  • Assist in patient shifting, positioning to prevent pressure injuries, and transfer to PACU or ICU.
  • Participate in safety protocols such as sign-in, time-out, and sign-out procedures.
  • Prepare and administer anesthesia medications under supervision.
  • Assist in induction, maintenance, and monitoring of anesthesia, including emergency resuscitation.
  • Collect and analyze blood samples, utilize Point-of-Care Testing, and administer blood products if necessary.
  • Perform routine checks of anesthesia carts, restock, and document procedures.
  • Troubleshoot intraoperative adverse events.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, prepare operating rooms efficiently.
  • Ensure environmental safety and infection control standards.

Accountabilities include:

  • Prepare anesthesia rooms, calibrate equipment, check consumables, and ensure readiness.
  • Support anesthesiologists during procedures, including establishing IV access and assisting with invasive monitoring.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and report abnormalities.
