Job summary

Deel is seeking a senior Backend Engineer to lead and shape the Growth engine, guiding a team of engineers across AI, backend, and data disciplines. You will design and ship AI-powered features, mentor engineers, and ensure robust, scalable systems that power a global payroll and HR platform.

Remote-friendly, with cross-border collaboration and advanced tooling. The role requires 8+ years in backend development and at least 2 years in a tech-lead capacity, with strong Node.js or Python skills

Qualifications

8+ years as Backend Engineer in scalable systems.
2+ years leading engineers as a tech lead or manager.
Strong with Node.js or Python; PostgreSQL experience; ORMs like Sequelize/TypeORM.

Responsibilities

Partner with Product, Design, and cross-functional teams to scope and ship features end to end — design, build, test, deploy, monitor.
Drive technical decisions that keep the team efficient and aligned with company-wide standards.
Support the team’s tech lead on architecture, code reviews, and design feedback.
Design and deploy AI agents at scale to accelerate yield across the platform.
Use AI coding tools to accelerate development. Review all AI-generated code before it ships.
Communicate technical constraints clearly to non-technical partners and keep everyone aligned.
