Azraq uses real-time data to predict and manage the carbon, energy, and cost outcomes of all design and technology decisions, empowering developers to optimize sustainability whilst balancing financial performance. Azraq is an API platform for the entire real estate lifecycle.

Role Overview

Azraq is seeking an Energy Model Director to lead the development and deployment of advanced physics-informed AI models and large language model frameworks for the built environment. This role will shape Azraq’s core technology strategy and oversee the integration of surrogate modeling, EnergyPlus simulation, and AI workflows into our platform. As part of Azraq’s UAE-based team, you will collaborate closely with our engineers, architects, and real estate clients on-site, while also engaging remotely with global research partners. You will mentor and guide a team of modelers and AI scientists, ensuring Azraq’s solutions are cutting-edge, reliable, and transformative for real estate decarbonization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the development of AI surrogate models approximating high-fidelity energy simulations (EnergyPlus)
• Design and implement LLM-powered workflows for building data integration, enrichment, and scenario analysis
• Develop physics-informed ML frameworks to accelerate decarbonization in real estate
• Guide the integration of real-world building metadata, sensors, and control systems into Azraq’s AI pipeline
• Mentor and manage a team of energy modelers and AI scientists
• Publish and present research at leading conferences and journals to position Azraq as an industry thought leader
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and client teams to deploy solutions at scale

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in building energy modeling, simulation, and analysis
• Expertise in EnergyPlus and advanced surrogate modeling techniques
• Proven experience developing large language models (LLMs) or AI frameworks for energy systems or built environment applications
• PhD in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field preferred
• Strong track record of published research in energy modeling and / or AI
• Proficiency in Python and modern AI frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Willingness to work in a hybrid on-site / remote setup in the UAE

Nice to Have

• Experience with HVAC system modeling and control theory
• Involvement in international research collaborations
• Knowledge of ESG frameworks and sustainability certifications
• Prior experience with sensor integration and building IoT systems
