Job summary

MedPro Staffing Middle East is seeking an experienced Addiction Medicine Physician to join a leading healthcare organisation in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will oversee the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, across detoxification, rehabilitation and recovery services.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans, manage detox and medication-assisted treatment,

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years post-specialisation clinical experience.
• At least 5 years dedicated experience in addiction medicine.
• Experience treating alcohol, opioid, stimulant, sedative and behavioural addictions.
• Experience with co-occurring conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders and personality disorders.
• Specialist training in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
• Board/specialist certification or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Familiarity with internationally recognised clinical standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical, psychiatric and addiction assessments.
• Diagnose and manage substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Develop and oversee individualised treatment and recovery plans.
• Provide medical oversight of detoxification and withdrawal management.
• Prescribe and monitor medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
• Support relapse prevention and long-term recovery planning.
• Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses and case managers.
• Participate in clinical case reviews, risk management and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development.
• Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Strong experience treating alcohol, opioid, stimulant, sedative and behavioural addictions
• Experience managing co-occurring conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders and personality disorders
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary addiction treatment environment
• Medical degree such as MD, MBBS or MBChB
• Specialist/residency training in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine with relevant addiction experience
• Board/Specialist certification or equivalent recognised qualification
• Familiarity with internationally recognised clinical standards and guidelines
