Overview
The Accountant of Revenue and Collection is responsible for accurately processing and recording revenue transactions, assisting in revenue reconciliations, and supporting the maintenance of comprehensive and secure revenue records. The objective is to provide reliable support in all revenue-related activities, ensure timely and accurate financial data entry, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the finance department. This role supports the broader goals of financial accuracy and compliance within the DET’s revenue cycle.
Key Accountabilities
- Processing and recording daily revenue transactions accurately within the accounting system.
- Assisting in the reconciliation of revenue accounts and resolving any discrepancies found during the process.
- Supporting the monthly and annual closing processes by preparing accurate revenue entries and ensuring timely submissions.
- Helping to maintain comprehensive records of revenue-related transactions for audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Participating in the improvement of revenue collection processes by suggesting enhancements based on observed challenges.
- Collaborating with customer service and sales teams to address billing issues and ensure accurate invoicing and collection practices.
- Providing support during financial audits by supplying necessary data and responding to inquiries regarding revenue transactions.
- Assist in developing and implementing detailed procedures for tracking and reporting specific types of revenue, such as digital transactions or international sales.
- Conduct regular checks and balances to ensure data integrity in the recording of revenue, preventing potential misstatements or errors in financial reporting.
- Support the Senior Accountant and Chief Accountant in preparing for year-end audits by organizing necessary documentation and detailed transaction histories for auditors' review.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- MBA is highly desirable, particularly with a concentration in accounting.
- Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) can be highly advantageous.
- Experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to revenue processes.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards, and compliance requirements.
