Currently House of Shipping is recruiting for a Accountant on behalf of one of its client in Dubai.

Job purpose

To maintain accurate financial records, reconcile accounts, and assist in the preparation of financial reports and analysis to support organizational goals.

Main tasks and Responsibilities

Financial Operations and Accounting

  • Maintain accurate accounting of revenue and costs by vessel, voyage, and Bill of Lading (BL).
  • Reconcile statements of accounts with shipping agents worldwide and ensure payments are followed up promptly.
  • Record operating expenses, accruals, provisions, and depreciation on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Prepare and review cash flow projections and weekly payment requests, coordinating approvals and treasury communications.
  • Perform bank, intercompany, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations monthly.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Assist in preparing monthly management reports for Business Unit Heads/Department Heads within set deadlines.
  • Support inter/intra-company balance reviews and reconciliations.
  • Prepare VAT returns and assist with compliance queries initiated by tax authorities and banks.

Audit and Compliance

  • Prepare audit schedules and other related financial documentation as required.
  • Support the team in responding to audit queries and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with operational and commercial stakeholders to align financial records with operational reporting.
  • Provide support to team members in achieving departmental objectives.

Education, Experience, and Competencies Required

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required. Relevant certifications in accounting (e.g., CPA, ACCA) are advantageous
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting, preferably within the shipping or logistics industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiarity with accounting software are essential.
  • Experience in financial reporting standards, VAT compliance, and multi-department coordination.
