Role - Accountant (Maternity Cover - 8 months Contract) – Dubai

Currently House of Shipping is recruiting for an Accountant for a temporary contract for 8 month contract.

Job purpose

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, managing day-to-day financial transactions, and supporting the month-end and year-end closing processes. This role plays a key part in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls to support decision-making and organizational performance.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain general ledger and ensure accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS/local GAAP.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, deferrals, and adjustments.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring accurate coding and approvals.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Reconcile customer and supplier accounts regularly.

Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management

  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements daily/weekly/monthly.
  • Monitor daily cash balances and ensure funds are allocated properly.

Taxation & Compliance

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of VAT returns and other tax-related documents.
  • Ensure adherence to tax laws, accounting standards, and internal policies.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Track departmental expenses against budget and report discrepancies.

Audit Support

  • Provide documentation and support during internal and external audits.
  • Ensure proper archiving of financial records for audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Currently on Spouse visa.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in a mid to large-sized organization.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Familiarity with UAE VAT laws and statutory financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience in handling audits and working with external auditors.
  • Strong skills in Excel and financial data analysis.
