Job summary

NMDC Group is seeking a 2nd Officer for a trailing suction hopper dredger in the UAE. You will maintain a safe navigational watch, assist the Master, and ensure compliance with COLREGs and company procedures during dredging and transit operations.

You will operate ECDIS, radar, GPS, AIS and other bridge equipment, maintain logs, support port entries, and supervise junior deck crew while upholding SMS, ISM and SOLAS standards.

Qualifications

• Licensed as officer in charge of Navigation Watch.
• Basic & Advanced STCW training completed.
• ILO/MLC medical fitness certificate.

Job description

2nd Officer for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

Responsibilities

• Responsible for safe navigational watchkeeping and assisting the Master in the safe operation of the TSHD.
• Maintain proper lookout and conduct navigation in accordance with COLREGs, company procedures and Master’s standing orders.
• Operate and monitor ECDIS, radar, GPS, AIS, echo sounder and other navigational equipment.
• Assist in planning and executing dredging, sailing and transit operations in coordination with the Dredge Master and bridge team.
• Monitor vessel position, depth, under-keel clearance and safe navigation during dredging and dumping operations.
• Maintain accurate deck, navigation, position and dredging-related records and logbooks.
• Assist the Master during port entry/exit, berthing, unberthing, anchoring and restricted-water navigation.
• Ensure proper preparation and updating of passage plans, navigational charts, publications and relevant electronic databases.
• Conduct regular checks of bridge equipment, navigation lights, signals and safety/navigation systems.
• Assist in implementation of the vessel’s SMS, ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, COLREGs and Flag/Classification requirements.
• Support safe deck operations, including mooring, anchoring, dredging and hopper-related activities as required.
• Participate in emergency drills and take assigned responsibilities during fire, abandon-ship, grounding and other emergencies.
• Supervise and guide junior deck crew during assigned operations and maintain good housekeeping and safety standards.
• Report navigational hazards, equipment defects, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly to the Master.
• Maintain effective communication with the Dredge Master, Chief Officer, engine room and shore operations team to ensure safe and uninterrupted dredging operations.
