Job summary

NMDC Group is seeking a 2nd Officer for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger in the United Arab Emirates. You will perform navigational watchkeeping duties and assist the Master in voyage planning and dredging operations aboard our dredging fleet.

The role requires a CPC as Officer in charge of Navigation Watch, STCW training, and at least 5 years' experience on TSHD vessels. You will maintain charts, navigate, supervise deck operations, and ensure full compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Competency as Officer in charge of Navigation Watch.
  • STCW Basic & Advanced training and valid medical.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience on Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger.

Responsibilities

  • Perform navigational watchkeeping per STCW to ensure safe vessel operation.
  • Assist Master in voyage planning, navigation, and dredging activities.
  • Maintain charts, ECDIS, and bridge documents; monitor bridge equipment.
  • Plan and conduct safety drills, inspections, and crew onboard training.
  • Supervise deck operations: mooring, anchoring, towing, and cargo tasks.

Job description

2nd Officer for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger.

Responsibilities
  • Perform navigational watchkeeping duties in accordance with STCW, COLREG, and company procedures to ensure the safe operation of the vessel.
  • Assist the Master in voyage planning, navigation, dredging operations, and safe execution of marine activities.
  • Maintain and update navigational charts, publications, ECDIS, and other bridge documentation.
  • Monitor the operation and maintenance of navigational equipment, communication systems, and bridge instruments.
  • Act as the designated Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with HSE policies, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct emergency drills, safety inspections, and onboard training for the crew.
  • Supervise deck operations, including mooring, anchoring, towing, pilot transfer, and cargo-related activities.
  • Assist in monitoring hopper loading, ballast operations, vessel stability, trim, and draft during dredging operations.
  • Maintain statutory certificates, safety records, and operational documentation in compliance with Flag State, Class, and company requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, and Dredge Master to support safe and efficient dredging operations.
  • Ensure lifesaving appliances (LSA), firefighting equipment (FFA), and emergency equipment are inspected and maintained in a state of readiness.
  • Monitor weather, tidal conditions, navigational warnings, and maritime traffic to support safe navigation and operational planning.
  • Supervise deck ratings during watchkeeping and routine maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, ISPS Code, and company policies.
  • Prepare reports, maintain bridge and safety logs, and contribute to continuous improvement in safety and operational performance.
Qualifications

Certificate of Competency as Officer in charge of Navigation Watch.

Basic & advanced STCW training along with valid medical.

Minimum 5 years' experience on Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger.
