Description
The Position

The Youth Worker is a member of a broader therapeutic team that works together to support each young person living in accommodation with their day-to-day activities and to help them develop personal, living, and social skills. The role also involves acting as a mentor to engage positive change. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Implementing and monitoring individual plans in collaboration with the House Manager.
  2. Engaging with, developing, and maintaining effective communication and positive relationships with the young people in care to foster a mentoring relationship.
  3. Assisting with the development of personal and living skills through encouragement and promotion of positive self-care, food hygiene, and financial practices.
  4. Supporting the development of educational, vocational, and social skills by encouraging participation in leisure, recreational, sporting, and community activities.
  5. Providing assistance with and encouraging young people in their daily activities.
  6. Establishing an appropriate balance between the needs of each young person and the group.
  7. Helping each young person manage their behaviour effectively through self-awareness and a strengths-based approach, in line with Marist180 guidelines.
  8. Responding appropriately to challenging behaviours or incidents to ensure the safety of young people at risk of harm.
  9. Completing house tasks for effective management, including reporting safety concerns.
  10. Maintaining documentation and records according to Marist180 procedures, including accurate progress reports, communications, timesheets, and financial records.
  11. Contributing to a positive, safe, and productive workplace environment.
  12. Engaging in reflective supervision with the house manager and participating in learning and development opportunities.
  13. Responding to reasonable directions from the house manager and care team.
Skills and Experiences

To be considered for this position, you are required to have:

  1. A Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people in a residential setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage clients positively while maintaining personal boundaries.
  4. National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check (or willingness to obtain).
  5. Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  6. An Unrestricted Driver's Licence (or a commitment to obtain an NSW Driver's Licence if holding a foreign licence by 1 March 2025).
  7. Consent to complete a verification of the Residential Care Workers Register managed by the Office of the Children's Guardian.
