The Position
The Youth Worker is a member of a broader therapeutic team that works together to support each young person living in accommodation with their day-to-day activities and achieve their individual personal living and social skills while acting as a mentor who engages positive change. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Implement and monitor individual plans in collaboration with the House Manager.
- Engage, develop, and maintain effective communication and a positive relationship with the young people in care to foster a positive mentoring relationship.
- Assist with the development of personal and living skills through encouragement and promotion of positive self-care, food hygiene, and financial practices.
- Assist with the development of educational, vocational, and social skills through encouraging participation in leisure, recreational, sporting, and community activities.
- Provide assistance and encourage the young person in care with their day-to-day activities.
- Establish an appropriate balance between the needs of a young person and the needs of the group.
- Assist each young person to effectively manage their own behaviour through a self-awareness and strengths-based approach in line with Marist180 guidelines.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours or incidents, ensuring the safety of young people at risk of harm.
- Complete set house tasks for effective house management, including reporting safety concerns.
- Maintain documentation and records as per Marist180 procedures, including completing accurate progress reports, communications, timesheets, and financial records.
- Contribute to a positive, safe, and productive workplace.
- Engage in reflective supervision with the house manager and participate in learning and development opportunities.
- Respond to reasonable directions from the house manager and care team.
Skills And Experiences
To be considered for this position, you are required to have:
- Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with young people in a residential setting.
- Demonstrated ability to engage clients positively while maintaining personal boundaries.
- National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Unrestricted Driver's Licence (or a commitment to obtain an NSW Driver's Licence if holding a foreign licence by 1 March 2025).
- Provide consent to complete a verification of the Residential Care Workers Register managed by the Office of the Children's Guardian.
