Job description

Workshop Supervisor - Sasolburg

The Big Picture: Howden Africa Compressor & Turbine Division is looking for a Workshop Supervisor to manage shop floor personnel, materials, and machines to manufacture designed products within budget and to customer specifications. The role involves providing a safe working environment for workshop staff. The position will be based in Sasolburg.

What needs to be done?
  1. Coordinate the manufacturing sequence, verify all received materials, and ensure no delays in product manufacturing within agreed timeframes and estimated costs.
  2. Calculate and estimate material and resource requirements to ensure jobs are manufactured within estimated costs, achieving correct margins.
  3. Purchase materials and sub-contract work timely to prevent delays and ensure on-time delivery.
  4. Handover drawings, work datasheets, materials, hours, assignments, and feedback to artisans, ensuring work is carried out to set standards within the agreed timeframe.
  5. Perform quality control, coaching, and monitor welding processes; check and verify products ready for dispatch. Liaise with inspectors and NDT technicians to minimize risks and meet Howden and customer standards.
  6. Manage workshop personnel, including leave, employee relations, and training requirements. Prepare overtime lists and sign timesheets. Motivate staff to stay focused, positive, and well-informed.
  7. Ensure environmental, health, and safety standards are implemented to comply with relevant legislation and company policies, providing a safe working environment for all employees.
  8. Monitor and control departmental expenditures to meet or exceed the annual purchasing budget.
  9. Maintain workshop machinery in good condition and prepare Capex applications as needed. Draw up and implement maintenance schedules for all machines.
  10. Maintain all workers’ qualifications to ensure competency for their roles.
  11. Adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and AX controls.
