This position aims to ensure the quality and timely execution of technical work performed by workshop-based technicians, mechanics, and assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve targets for technical work, including services, rework, and PDI inspections.
- Take full responsibility for managing the team reporting to this role by providing ongoing technical support, coaching, and on-the-job training. Ensure service quality, optimize response times, and maintain professionalism.
- Evaluate technicians’ training needs, address skill gaps, conduct quality checks on completed work, meet required turnaround times, and oversee the completion of relevant apprentice modules.
- Ensure sound financial management of the team, aligning with the budget and departmental strategic objectives.
- Meet company policies and targets for rework, work in progress, labor recovery, team and departmental gross profit (GP) and contribution, and manage consumables and overheads effectively.
- Comply with OHSACT regulations on both company and customer premises, ensuring all safety standards are upheld.
- Promote customer service excellence by building strong, loyal relationships with internal and external customers. Foster a commitment to service excellence in all work, provide timely feedback and communication, and meet internal and external CSI targets.
- Focus team efforts on growing the department in line with company requirements.
- Drive operational innovation.
Must have qualifications:
- Qualified Artisan (Millwright, Electrician, Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic) with experience in forklifts or similar material handling equipment. Previous management experience is essential.
- Proven ability to manage, lead, and coach a team effectively; skilled in planning, organizing, and controlling business activities and personnel to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying technical information.
- Skilled in reading and understanding schematics, diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Skilled in identifying and accurately using appropriate diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.
- Working knowledge of OHSACT & environmental legislation.
