Job summary

SkyJacks seeks a Workshop Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of a multi-trade workshop and yard for Suspended Access Equipment (SAE). You will coordinate maintenance, service delivery, and repairs while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

You will lead a team of technicians, manage workloads, and ensure OEM and DMR compliant records. A relevant trade qualification and strong leadership are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 with relevant trade qualification preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience servicing and maintaining SAE equipment.
  • LMI registration advantageous.
  • Ability to lead and develop workshop staff.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with ISO standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee workshop and yard operations, ensuring efficient maintenance and servicing of SAE equipment.
  • Coordinate breakdown response, allocate technician workloads, and mentor staff.
  • Ensure quality control and complete work histories to meet DMR and OEM requirements.
  • Manage maintenance budgets and control repair costs.
  • Ensure zero-harm health, safety and environmental practices in operations.
  • Maintain rental fleet readiness and equipment availability.
  • Ensure accurate job cards and timesheets.

Job description

The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a multi-trade workshop and yard, ensuring the efficient maintenance, repair, and servicing of Suspended Access Equipment (SAE). This role is responsible for coordinating workshop activities, maintaining high safety and quality standards, and ensuring equipment is serviced and repaired in accordance with operational requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Production / Operations:
  • Manage workshop and field service maintenance operations.
  • Attend to breakdowns promptly and efficiently Supervise, mentor, train, evaluate and discipline direct reports.
  • Allocate and oversee technician workloads.
  • Support technicians with troubleshooting (onsite and remote).
  • Ensure quality control of all workshop and yard work.
  • Ensure that each hoist and associated components has a work history to satisfy Driven Machinery Regulations (DMR) and OEM requirements.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and provide timely technical feedback.
Administration:
  • Manage maintenance budgets and control repair costs.
  • Ensure accurate completion and sign-off of job cards and timesheets.
  • Order spare parts and manage stock control, including stock takes.
Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Aim for zero harm in health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement measures to reduce risk.
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed regularly.
  • Maintain high housekeeping and safe operating standards in the workshop.
  • Stay updated on equipment maintenance best practices.
  • Ensure field technicians follow client site safety and security rules.
  • Help maintain the company's ISO certification standards.
  • Comply with the ECSA Rules of Conduct and the Engineering Professions Act (2013), as well as the SkyJacks Code of Conduct for LMI's.
  • Participate in SAE training when required.
Maintenance & Equipment Management:
  • Ensure rental fleet is properly maintained and available for operational requirements.
  • Oversee scheduled maintenance, repairs, and servicing in line with OEM specifications and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate machine and equipment service histories (DMR and OEM compliant)Reduce equipment downtime and breakdown frequency.
  • Ensure hire equipment reliability and readiness.
Education, Experience and Competencies Required:
  • Minimum Grade 12 required, with a relevant trade qualification preferred,
  • At least 10 years' experience in servicing and maintaining SAE equipment; LMI registration is advantageous
  • Maintain discipline and enforce company policies consistently.
  • Ensure compliance with reasonable management instructions.
  • Work overtime when operationally required.
