Job summary

Headhunters is seeking a Workshop Foreman in Kempton Park, Johannesburg for a leading construction and manufacturing client. The role involves overseeing workshop operations, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring effective stock management. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Workshop Mechanic or in a Factory/Production environment.
  • Competence on IT systems: MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure tools and machinery are in working order and report damaged tools.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure that jobs are completed on time.
  • Manage stock and ensure correct placement and accuracy.

Job description

Our client in the construction / manufacturing industry based in Kempton Park - Johannesburg is currently looking to employ a Workshop Foreman.

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent Technical certificate, and Tertiary Trade qualification.
  • Tertiary Production and Stock management related qualification will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Workshop Mechanic OR 5 years in a Factory / Production environment, preferably in the Construction sector - Construction industry knowledge is required.
  • Competence on IT systems MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical applications and to work with hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability and experience in working at heights.
  • Technical fault finding and solution application.
  • Welding experience : Tig, Arc, CO2, and Spot welding.
  • Risk assessment qualification and good knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Managerial skills to assist with Site management, oversee workshop staff and co-ordinate their workloads.
  • Ability to develop, implement and maintain production systems.
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Valid SA Drivers license with own transport.

Responsibilities :

Factory Facilities and Safe Housekeeping :

  • Ensuring that all tools and machinery are in working order and report damaged / broken tools.

Should tools need replacing or fixing, this needs to be brought to management’s attention and followed up to replace.

  • All safety equipment / safety clothing and safety requirements need to be checked on a monthly basis and replaced / repaired where necessary.
  • Maintenance of the building and working area, including any breakages, construction issues, security and garden maintenance.
  • Repair and routine maintenance of production equipment and facilities.
  • Control, measure and reduce scrap and other waste.
  • Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed.
  • Maintaining a clean, clear, tidy working environment.

Quality Control :

  • Ensure quality standards are achieved as well as monitoring product standards.
  • Monitor quality of jobs and investigate quality issues where necessary and make recommendations to improve.
  • Ensure quality checks are executed and documentation is in order.

Production :

  • Identify any potential production issues and communicate an early warning to find solutions.
  • Ensure that all products manufactured in the workshop are in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Regular communication of job schedules and participation in production / operations meeting with the relevant Managers.
  • Ensure that products are produced on time and are of good quality.
  • Monitoring the production processes and communicating concerns with management.

Installation, Service and Maintenance :

  • Going to customer sites to do correct measurements for new installations, repairs or maintenance.

Stock Management :

  • Ensuring all stock is placed in correct bins and locations in the stock room at all times.
  • Ensure accuracy of the controlling of stock extracted and returned by technicians for repairs / installation / maintenance.
  • Overseeing the receiving of stock and the safe offloading of containers.
  • Ensure that receiving and dispatch of stock processes are followed accurately.
  • Placing stock items in correct bins / locations when shipments arrive.
  • Ensure that inventory levels are optimized.
  • Notify management of any stock discrepancies, shortages or excess.
  • Doing spot checks on deliveries to customers, comparing documentation with the load that is to be delivered for PVC material and parts.
  • Assisting customers collecting stock with required documentation when necessary.
  • Overseeing and assisting with quarterly stock counting, ensuring accuracy and quality at all times.
  • Ensure store room items have correct markings on stock, correct placements and correct dispatch.
  • Arranging the factory parts and material in marked and colour coded bins, to correspond with correct door models / bills of materials for manufacturing to ensure correct stock control.

Customer Service.

Human Resources :

  • Provide feedback on staff performance to managers.
  • Policies and Procedures - adhered to.
  • OHS - Met and Maintained.
