Job summary

An established industry player in the wine sector is looking for a dynamic winemaker to join their team. This role involves managing the entire winemaking process, from grape reception to fermentation, blending, and bottling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in viticulture and oenology, with 5-8 years of hands-on experience. You'll be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards in wine production while managing staff and maintaining cellar hygiene. Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of relevant winemaking experience required.
  • Strong interest in Oenology and viticulture essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage winemaking processes for both white and red wines.

Job description

We are seeking to employ a dynamic winemaker to join the Simonsig team.

Main Job Duties and Responsibilities

•Winemaking (white and red wines)

Manage incoming grapes during harvest

Fermentation management and control in tanks and barrels

Tasting, blending and bottling of wines

Management of wine quality control and cellar hygiene

Staff management (cellar workers)

Inventory control of wine and dry goods

Conduct wine tastings and wine promotions

Liaise with clients and suppliers

Admin and recordkeeping with regards to winemaking

Requirements

BSc in Agriculture Viticulture and Oenology OR Elsenburg Qualification in Cellar Technology or similar, with a main interest in Oenology

Literate in Afrikaans and English

5 - 8 years’ relevant winemaking experience

Computer literate

Reliable own vehicle and valid driver’s license

No criminal record

Working hours are Monday to Thursday, from 07h00 – 17h00 and Friday, from 07h00 – 16h00

Willingness to work additional hours when required as per the wine industry requirements
