Monthly Salary : R12,800

A distinguished luxury hotel nestled in the scenic coastal surrounds of Cape Town is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Wine Steward to join its esteemed Food & Beverage team. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a property known for its elegant hospitality, exceptional culinary offerings, and breathtaking ocean views.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Curate and manage the wine list in collaboration with the Head Sommelier and F&B Manager, ensuring selections reflect both international excellence and local varietals.
  • Provide expert recommendations and guidance to guests on wine pairings, enhancing their dining experience.
  • Oversee proper storage, handling, and presentation of wines in line with the highest industry standards.
  • Conduct wine tastings and staff training sessions to elevate product knowledge across the service team.
  • Liaise with suppliers and distributors to maintain premium inventory and stay updated on new offerings.
  • Monitor wine sales and assist in driving profitability through suggestive selling and menu planning.
  • Ensure all service operations adhere to hotel standards and health & safety regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Wine Steward or Sommelier in a luxury hotel or fine dining environment.
  • Formal certification in wine studies (e.g., WSET Level 2 or higher) preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of South African wines and global wine regions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine passion for guest service.
  • Well-groomed, professional demeanor and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
