The right candidate must have extensive knowledge in wine and beverages, with international experience preferred. All candidates must be WSET qualified.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Wine Steward supports the food & beverage (F&B) operations at all times, in accordance with Vikings STAR Service Standards.
It is your duty to ensure that glassware, equipment, utensils, and products in your assigned area are maintained and exceptionally clean.
It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business, which in turn will increase revenue and profitability of the company.
Your Responsibilities
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of all Bar Menus to deliver exceptional STAR Service at all times; ensure all Guests are charged according to company standards and account procedures; advise the supervisor on duty if guests are incorrectly charged.
- Conduct daily wine presentations with the Executive Chef & Sommelier for all restaurant outlets; serve beverages during meal periods as instructed; support waitstaff during service; conduct wine tastings and participate in shoreside wine excursions as requested.
- Keep and store all Bar and Cellar Inventory Stock according to set par-levels, adhering to Public Health Policies.
- Follow service procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures and Departmental Service Standards.
- Prepare and operate F&B activities across outlets, ensuring all are executed to company standards.
- Minimize equipment loss/damage and maintain high cleanliness standards, applying safe working policies and sanitizing equipment after use.
- Ensure mise-en-place is prepared 15 minutes prior to service.
- Participate in Daily Reunion meetings to understand operational needs and adhere to Vikings STAR Service Standards.
- Provide high-level, sales-oriented service to guests, maintaining impeccable cleanliness and hygiene standards, proactively preparing service based on guest flow and activities.
- Always wear appropriate PPE and use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
- Uphold grooming standards per Vikings Image and Uniform Standards.
- Secure company property during rough weather to prevent loss or damage.
- Motivate to achieve company goals for quality and financial performance.
- Know safety & security procedures and participate in training related to onboard safety, fire prevention, and evacuation exercises.
- Assist other departments and perform additional duties as instructed by supervisors.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Wine Steward or similar in a 5-star international hospitality environment; ability to work independently.
- Minimum age of 21; physically fit, able to carry heavy items, and stand, kneel, or bend for prolonged periods.
- Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
