Job summary

Sibanye Stillwater in Theunissen, South Africa, seeks a qualified Winding Engine Driver to manage hoisting operations in the shaft, move personnel and materials safely, and uphold Mine Health and Safety Act standards.

This role requires a recognised WED certificate, Onsetter advantage, Grade 12, and 1-2 years' WED experience; medical fitness and clear security; duties include reporting, logbooks, and adherence to site procedures.

Qualifications

• At least 1-2 years’ experience as a Winding Engine Driver on AC and DC machines or have proof of Competence for newly qualified WED.
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area
• Clear security screening record
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)

Responsibilities

• Complete and pass assessments and medical screening as per schedules.
• Operational functionality: physically operate the winding engine to hoist and lower men, materials and ore in the shaft in compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and SPG
• Identify electrical and/or mechanical faults
• Identify operational problems and emergencies and act within area of responsibility
• Operate winding engine
• Maintain driver’s log book
• Adhere to Mine Health and Safety Act and site instructions
• Report incidents and accidents pertaining to the winder
• Collaborate with stakeholders to improve processes and safety

• Proof must be provided that certificate is still valid and WED has driven a winder in the last 2 years as an appointed WED.

Key Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for logbook
• Be conversant with the Mine Health and Safety Act and any applicable Company or management instructions
• Reset automatic hoist when trip-outs occur so as to ensure a minimum delay in hoisting time
• Record conditions of winding engine daily and complete driver’s log book as required
• List stoppages and callouts and reasons daily
• Perform other tasks as allocated by the supervisor
• Legal Compliance
• Adhere to regulations and special instructions (site specific).
• Identification and reporting of non-compliance incidents.
• Identify hazards and take remedial measures to prevent accidents/ incidents in during winding operations.
• Use signals in an appropriate manner.
• Participate and assist during audits conducted on machinery.
• Adhere to rules and regulations as set out in the MHS Act.
• Adhere to any special instructions issued by the responsible engineer. Reporting & Administration
• Report all incidents and/or accidents pertaining to the winder and/or shaft to the responsible Section Engineer.
• Complete relevant documentation required.
• Stakeholder Relations
• Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.
• Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
• Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers.
• Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
• Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes. Financial Management Cost Savings:

Job Purpose

• This role is accountable for the conveyance of people, material and ore which include slinging material from and to surface by means of a winding engine. Responsibilities include ensuring effective and efficient movement of men, materials and ore in a safe manner.
