Job summary

Job description

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc Honours Degree in a relevant environmental field (MSc advantageous)
  • At least two (2) years post-qualification experience in wetland assessments
  • SACNASP professional registration
  • Proven experience in:
  • Wetland delineation and classification
  • Application of WET-Health and WET-EcoServices tools
  • Wetland offsetting and mitigation strategies
  • Wetland rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of aquatic/hydrological assessments and AutoCAD (advantageous)
  • Own vehicle and valid driver's license
  • Strong proposal and tender writing/management capabilities
  • Familiarity with the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998) and environmental legislation, policies, and strategies
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work extended hours when required

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct wetland delineation, classification, and assessments using tools like WET-Health and WET-EcoServices
  • Develop and implement wetland offset, mitigation, and rehabilitation strategies
  • Compile high-quality scientific reports and support environmental impact assessments
  • Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the National Water Act and the National Environmental Management Act, in all project work
  • Utilise GIS for mapping and spatial analysis
  • Contribute to proposals and tender documents
  • Manage fieldwork and projects independently
  • Liaise professionally with clients, authorities, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Travel to project sites as needed and work extended hours when required
  • Supervise and mentor staff as required
