Welding Engineer, Johannesburg
Main Purpose of the Role: Draught welding and mechanical designs of boiler and boiler-related equipment, conduct technical investigations or reviews, and provide engineering support to maintenance activities related to boilers and equipment.
Requirements:
- Honours Degree in Engineering (BSc, BEng, or BEng Tech) specializing in Welding
- IIW International Welding Engineer / Technologist (IWE/IWT) Certificate
- Professional Engineering registration with ECSA (preferred)
- 10 years of relevant industry experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage engineering projects, providing progress feedback
- Manage project progress in terms of task completion, time, cost, and quality
- Issue documents to clients as per project plan
- Perform designs in accordance with project requirements, codes, and standards for boilers and related equipment
- Develop method statements for manufacturing, construction, and maintenance activities
- Conduct plant failure investigation and maintenance review studies
- Review engineering work of others and update documents and drawings accordingly
- Mentor and train junior engineers and technical personnel
- Engage with customers through technical discussions and meetings
- Coordinate technical updates and project progress communication across departments
- Oversee preparation of tender documents and assist in engineering scope estimation
- Provide technical support and conduct site visits as needed
- Develop and qualify welding procedures according to standards, maintaining procedures as required
- Stay updated with technological developments in the field
Knowledge:
- Processes and design principles of boilers and related equipment
- Design standards, codes, and metallurgy related to welding
- Occupational health and safety regulations, pressure equipment standards
- Non-destructive testing methods and standards
- Fabrication engineering and related software skills such as Autodesk, Inventor, PV Elite, and CAESAR II
