Water Engineer / Technologist – Site Supervision (Cape Town)

Municipal Services Engineering (Site Supervision)

With over 65 years of experience in multidisciplinary consulting engineering and project management, Ingerop South Africa is seeking an experienced and proactive Civil Engineer / Technologist / Technician to join our dynamic Water team based in Bellville, Cape Town. This is a 14-month, full-time, site-based contract opportunity for an individual with proven site supervision experience, specifically on large-diameter concrete sewer pipelines. The successful candidate will work on a major municipal infrastructure project for the City of Cape Town.

Job Description (Details of the position)

The successful candidate will be based full-time on site, providing Site Supervision and Construction Monitoring services under the direction of the Employer’s Agent and Ingerop’s Water team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day construction activities to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and health & safety requirements.
  • Inspecting construction works, materials, and workmanship to verify quality and compliance.
  • Monitoring contractor progress and programme.
  • Verifying quantities and assisting in preparing monthly contractor payment certificates.
  • Assisting the Employer’s Agent with site instructions, variation orders, and contract administration.
  • Attending and participating in site meetings, technical workshops, and resolving on-site technical queries.
  • Reviewing and recording as-built information and updates to construction drawings.
  • Preparing site reports, progress reports, and other project documentation as required.
  • Coordinating with the office design team, contractor, client, and third-party stakeholders to ensure effective communication and timely resolution of issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • NDip, BTech, BSc, or BEng in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ site supervision experience on pipeline installations.
  • Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure construction and trench excavations.
  • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Advantageous Experience and Skills

  • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer, Technologist or Technician will be an advantage but is not a requirement if substantial relevant experience can be demonstrated.
  • Experience on large-diameter (DN700mm and above) pipeline installations.
  • Experience with trenchless pipeline installation methods.
  • Experience with MS Project or similar scheduling tools.
  • Good understanding of construction contract documentation (BoQs, Specifications, Drawings, GCC 2015).
  • Strong report writing, site record-keeping, and progress monitoring abilities
