Job description

Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations to ensure the efficient, safe, and accurate handling of stock and materials. This role involves managing staff, coordinating workflows, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring adherence to company procedures and health & safety regulations. The supervisor plays a key role in meeting operational targets, supporting continuous improvement, and delivering high service standards to internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
Operational
  • Supervise the work and processes carried out by staff members within the area(s) for which you are responsible, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the operation
  • Ensure that all processes within your area of responsibility are performed in accordance with the relevant SOPs
  • Ensure that all SOPs are known, understood, documented, implemented, managed, maintained, and enforced
  • Ensure that all tasks and activities are completed efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure that stock is checked thoroughly to confirm that its condition, quantity, and description match the documentation and stock records
  • Ensure that stock is handled correctly and that the packaging remains in good condition
  • Resolve all issues arising within your area of responsibility
  • Escalate any unresolved issues to the Warehouse Manager
  • Ensure that stock is properly controlled at all times
  • Assist in the preparation for, and execution of, stock takes and/or cycle counts
  • Ensure the smooth flow of all processes throughout the operation
  • Ensure that all administrative tasks related to your area of responsibility are carried out
  • Ensure that the facility and stock are adequately secured, and that all Loss Control policies and procedures are implemented
  • Generate, retrieve, manage, and maintain operational reports as required
  • Ensure that customer requirements are met
  • Ensure that all equipment required for operational tasks is available and in working order
  • Where necessary, ensure formal handovers are carried out to the night shift team
Operational
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet operational requirements
  • Ensure that staff are motivated and productive
  • Ensure that all staff are fully trained in all aspects of the operation
  • Provide on-the-job training
  • Ensure that overtime is minimised and only authorised in exceptional circumstances
Quality, Health & Safety, and KPIs
  • Ensure that customer KPIs are known, understood, measured, managed, maintained, and reported on monthly
  • Ensure a focus on continuous improvement, and that improvement initiatives are implemented
  • Take proactive measures within the operation
  • Ensure that NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), NCPs (Non-Conformance Procedures), and IOs (Improvement Opportunities) are raised daily
  • Ensure that all NCRs, NCPs, and IOs are closed out within the required lead times (5 working days)
  • Ensure that Quality Management System (QMS) targets and objectives are managed and maintained
  • Maintain Health and Safety standards and ensure compliance with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ensure that all required monthly checks are completed
  • Maintain housekeeping standards on a daily basis
MHE and Asset Management
  • Ensure that the facility, stock, and assets are adequately secured and that all Loss Control policies and procedures are enforced
  • Ensure that all assets are well-maintained, accounted for, and reported on as required
  • Ensure all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) requirements — including licences, servicing, load tests, inspections, and training — are managed and maintained in accordance with regulatory and internal Value requirements
  • Ensure that all assets and MHE are utilised optimally
Finances
  • Ensure that costs are kept to a minimum and that all expenditure is accounted for and properly managed
  • Ensure full compliance with procurement procedures.
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Degree/diploma in supply chain/warehousing field beneficial
