Purpose of the Position
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the overall performance and well-being of the warehouse receiving, storage and picking departments of the distribution center, its staff and its customers. Monitoring operational capacity and process to ensure the sustainability of the distribution center warehouse operations at the right cost and to the right quality standards.
Key Functional Responsibilities
The Key Functional responsibilities of the Warehouse Manager includes but is not limited to :
- Cost control Warehouse expenditure is managed within budget.
- Labour is managed within budgeted KPIs.
- Stock losses are managed within budgeted KPIs.
- Stock damages are managed within budgeted KPIs.
- Repairs and maintenance are managed within budgeted KPIs.
- Machinery is managed within budgeted KPIs.
- Cost overruns are investigated, and appropriate countermeasures are instituted to prevent further overruns.
- To be knowledgeable on the FSSC 22000 standards.
- Expenditure is recorded in correct period.
- Accounts are accurate.
- 11. Process Compliance :
- DC is consistently compliant with all procedures.
- Warehouse quality standards are consistently maintained in accordance with DQSP requirements.
- Pass all internal and external quality audits.
- Audit gaps are closed within prescribed due dates.
- Perform staff on the job procedure assessments weekly.
- Shift expenditure is managed within shift budget.
- To be conscious about food safety and quality protocols in the distribution center.
- To be part of the Food Safety Team and custodian of improvements.
- To be accountable for all internal and external audits and ensure smooth running of the audit procedure.
- 12. Continuous Improvement :
- Process, quality, service level and cost improvements are actively pursued through the DQSP process.
- 13. Picking :
- Picking is accurate according to agreed target.
- Provide resources required according to pick plan.
- 14. Receiving :
- Receiving is accurate according to agreed target.
- Provide resources required to achieve receiving plan.
- Floor is clear before pick.
- All pallets are labelled.
- 15. Facility and equipment maintenance (buildings, racks, plant, MHEs, delivery equipment etc.) Assets are well maintained, clean and in good working order.
- 16. Warehouse is well maintained, neat and clean.
- 17. Health and safety repairs are completed without delay.
- 18. To be conscious about food safety and quality protocols in the distribution center.
- 19. To be part of the Food safety Team and custodian of improvements.
- 20. To be accountable for all internal and external audits and ensure smooth running of the audit procedure.
- 21. Ensure that all KPIs are met and risk is mitigated.
- 22. Preventative maintenance is carried out according to program.
- 23. Everything has a place; every place is labelled, and everything is in its place.
- 24. Attend and contribute to daily Max sessions.
- 25. Planning :
- Activities are planned and resourced according to plan.
- Sign off weekly plan.
- Review daily plan.
- Assist in preparation of DC budget.
- 26. Reporting :
- Provide daily and weekly plan versus actual report.
- Reports are accurate.
- Report deadlines are met.
- Variance vs budget / plans are explained.
- 27. Risk management :
- Sprinkler and fire systems always in 100% working order.
- Racks inspected per procedure.
- Refrigeration plant and equipment is maintained according to specification.
- Generator is maintained according to specification.
- Comply with all relevant legislation.
- 28. People management :
- Hold monthly team meetings.
- Conduct formal One-on-One meetings with direct reports at least once per month.
- Ensure that all staff always maintains DQSP certification.

Qualification Required
- Minimum : Grade 12 with Higher Grade Math
- Tertiary Diploma / Degree / Qualification
Computer Literacy Required
- MS Office (PowerPoint, Projects, Word, Outlook)
- Advanced MS Excel Skills
- Advanced Warehouse Management System (WMS) Skills
- Accounting Software (Microsoft Great Plains)
- Advanced Great Plains Experience
