Job description

The purpose of the role is to oversee the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely issue of goods for meeting customer service levels and reducing costs for all Speciality plants.

Manage all warehouse requirements, storage areas, equipment and SOPs ensuring SHERQ compliance.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. 5 years' experience in a warehouse environment, 3 of which in a Supervisory / Team Leader position
  2. National Diploma in Warehouse / Logistics Management
  3. Grade 12

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategy Execution
  1. Identify and drive the implementation of improvements in warehouse operations to achieve significant gains in efficiency.
  2. Ensure the implementation of warehouse best operating practices and standardised procedures / practices throughout the warehouse.
  3. Manage the system for keeping stock control systems up to date and plan future capacity requirements based on forward planning.
Operations Management
  1. Control and monitor inventory levels and replenishment processes.
  2. Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse(s) by planning and implementing new design layouts in conjunction with the Supply planning Manager; inspecting facilities and equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  3. Manage operational requirements by deploying warehouse operational and administrative employees and following up on work results.
  4. Continuously consider cost reducing strategies over all activities of the warehouse.
  5. Manage the housekeeping of the warehouse(s) and surrounding area and food safety requirements.
Warehouse Administration
  1. Oversee the warehouse administration, ensuring that all goods receipting and issuing documents are accurately and promptly processed.
  2. Ensure computerized administration and automated storage and retrieval systems are accurately maintained.
  3. Audit daily labour timesheets and or attendance.
Warehouse Maintenance Management
  1. Oversee the planned and unplanned maintenance of warehouse equipment.
Customer Service Level Management
  1. Resolve issues encountered around damaged or short stock.
Risk Management
  1. Ensure ISO compliance throughout the warehouse(s), including health and safety and food safety.
  2. Achieve 95% hygiene & risk standards by health inspections and risk compliance inspections incorporating: forklift inspections, lighting inspections, facility inspections.
  3. Participate in the risk meetings.
  4. Ensure warehouse compliance with all national and provincial legislation and regulations, international SHERQ standards (FSSC) and with company policy.
  5. Ensure the safeguarding of warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  6. Issue staff with correct PPE clothing.
Team Management
  1. Ensure labour availability across all shifts.
  2. Monitor team performance and provide regular performance feedback.
  3. Coach and support the team where necessary to achieve objectives.
  4. Lead the team towards meeting the strategy and targets through regular communication and utilization of the full organizational talent management tool set.
  5. Address poor performance in individuals and teams in accordance with company policy and the relevant legislation.
  6. Conduct regular meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.
  7. Mentor & train warehouse personnel, develop SOP's and training manuals in conjunction with the learning specialist & risk team.
