Job description

Function: Administration Facility Position - Ward Clerk / Secretary Renal

Introduction:

A vacancy has arisen for a Ward Clerk / Secretary Renal position reporting to the Unit Manager, Melinda Verwey. The successful candidate will contribute towards the optimal functioning of the nursing team through effective interdepartmental liaising, communication, and administrative support to the nursing and renal team.

Critical Outputs

  • Ensure optimal service levels while understanding and striving to achieve targets
  • Ensure the speedy and effective execution of non-nursing activities
  • Attend meetings and in-service training as scheduled
  • Maintain a safe environment in all areas of the unit by staying up to date with safety standards and protocols
  • Understand emergency plans and actions
  • Eliminate medico-legal risks through correct identification and filing of patient documentation
  • Maintain a positive appearance and behavior, both within and outside the hospital environment
  • Provide friendly and helpful client service
  • Uphold quality principles
  • Maintain professional secrecy and discretion during contact with customers and colleagues
  • Ensure effective communication between customers and colleagues
  • Manage stock and billing processes
  • Obtain authorization for renal sessions and liaise with relevant funders and parties
  • Keep records of renal sessions and send reports to relevant departments
  • Open new renal files for patients requiring dialysis sessions and manage archiving of documents

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of general administrative experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and computer literacy is essential
  • Coordinate bookings and patient transport
