VICE PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Vice President of Engineering (VPE) you are a strong people leader who is process-oriented, great at hiring and building a team but also unafraid to challenge the status-quo and get your hands dirty when needed. You are primarily concerned with operationalising the engineering and company strategy, and ensuring the organisation has the people, process and plans to achieve those goals.

The VPE is accountable for:

• Building the engineering team and culture
• The smooth, on time and in budget execution of the organisation’s engineering efforts.
• Getting the right people on board the bus for the destination, ensuring they are in the best structure, and keeping them happy, healthy and hungry to achieve their goals.
• Mapping product roadmaps onto hiring plans
• Making sure the planned effort makes sense and is achievable holistically
• Helping to keep the efforts of different teams focused on organisational goals
• Monitoring progress against goals and surfacing risks and slippages

VICE PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE

• 10+ years of relevant work experience
• BSc Computer Science or equivalent is encouraged (strong work experience can fill this gap)
• Experience leading leaders or managing teams
• A strong intuition on intrinsic motivation and demonstrated experience in building a great engineering team and culture
• Passionate about coaching and mentoring and developing leaders
• Experience building operational rigour into Engineering teams to drive ownership and alignment within engineering and across different departments
• Great problem-solving skills
• Experience as a developer and strong understanding of systems and services
• Ability to work effectively across teams to deliver results, with good verbal and written communication skills
