VICE-PRESIDENT (VP) OF OPERATIONS – POWER (POW)

Position Details
  • Division / Department: Operations & Maintenance (OM) / Power (POW)
  • Location: Western Region, Ghana (West Africa) - EXPAT OPPORTUNITY
  • Report To: CEO
  • Subordinates: Plant Managers, Engineering Managers, HSE Superintendent, HR & Administration Superintendent, Commercial & Administration Superintendent, Procurement Superintendent
  • Designation Level: Divisional Head
Objective

The VP of Operations (POW) oversees plant operations, ensuring optimal production, safety, environmental responsibility, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operational Leadership: Lead plant teams for efficient and safe operation; develop maintenance plans using CMMS; make autonomous decisions on personnel and technical matters.
  2. Safety & Compliance: Establish safety protocols, operating procedures, and environmental regulations.
  3. Maintenance & Reliability: Implement proactive maintenance to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.
  4. Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.
  5. Budget Management: Develop and oversee operational budgets, including cost control and forecasting.
  6. Emergency Response: Develop emergency plans and train staff for incident response.
  7. Reporting: Prepare performance, safety, and compliance reports for the CEO and clients.
  8. Stakeholder Relations: Maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies, communities, and stakeholders.
  9. Culture: Foster a culture of problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC)
  • Support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Review construction drawings, P&ID, and commissioning checklists.
  • Manage warranty and punch list issues post-commissioning.
  • Ensure adherence to QAQC standards.
Operations & Maintenance (OM)
  • Lead power generation operations.
  • Develop strategies for operations and maintenance improvements.
  • Approve major shutdowns (>24 hours).
  • Support plant managers in client and budget issues.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards (HSE, Engineering, Financing).
Procurement & Logistics
  • Oversee purchase and service agreements.
  • Review and approve project budgets and schedules.
  • Collaborate with finance to optimize procurement savings.
  • Manage procurement agreements for spare parts and consumables.
Finance & Compliance
  • Ensure budget compliance and report deviations.
  • Work with finance for financial strategies and tax considerations.
  • Develop financial targets and ensure timely project commissioning.
  • Coordinate with legal and compliance departments.
Organizational Development
  • Supervise project execution within deadlines and budgets.
  • Promote flexible work practices and team building.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and training.
  • Participate in recruitment and staffing decisions.
  • Manage leave policies and staff schedules.
Qualifications

BSc in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Master’s in Engineering, Business, or Management is a plus. Multicultural experience preferred.

Knowledge & Experience

Minimum 12+ years in oil & gas industry, specifically power plants; 10+ years post-qualification experience; familiarity with regulatory standards and ISO systems.
