Job position: Water Use Licence Specialist

Job type: Permanent

The purpose of the role is to manage and oversee Water Use Licence (WUL) applications and compliance for large-scale projects in the mineral resources and energy sectors.

The Water Use Licence Specialist will provide technical expertise in obtaining and maintaining water use licences, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting project teams in meeting complex legal, procedural, and environmental requirements.

This role is vital for ensuring environmental sustainability and regulatory adherence throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Consult with clients and competent authorities.
  2. Lead tender and proposal compilation.
  3. Source and market project leads.
  4. Prepare, submit, and track WUL applications for large-scale projects, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and national regulations.
  5. Monitor compliance with WUL conditions through auditing, ensuring legal and environmental requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  6. Liaise with regulatory authorities, environmental consultants, and project teams to ensure smooth application processes.
  7. Work with environmental specialists to assess water use impacts and develop mitigation strategies.
  8. Maintain accurate records of WUL applications, including monitoring, renewal, and audits, ensuring proper documentation for internal and regulatory purposes.

Qualifications / Experience Required:

  1. Minimum 5 years proven experience in project managing South African Water Use Licence application processes.
  2. SACNASP Registration (this is a fixed requirement).
  3. In-depth knowledge of water use regulations, environmental laws, and policies relevant to large-scale industrial projects.
  4. Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  5. The ability to work in a team and independently.
  6. Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, as troubleshooting is at the core of our service offering.
  7. The ability to work efficiently under pressure on multiple projects.
  8. The ability to confidently liaise with clients and work strategically within multidisciplinary professional teams.
  9. Being strategic and innovative will add value to the team.

Salary range: Salary is commensurate with experience.
