Organization Name: Operations and Facilities Management Department

Position: Utilities Manager

The Utilities Manager will lead and manage utilities services within the University of Witwatersrand, focusing on increasing the availability and efficient utilization of electricity, gas, diesel, and water. The role involves ensuring energy and utilities are used efficiently, sustainably, and cost-effectively, with responsibilities including data analysis, project leadership, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, implement, and drive the Utilities and Energy plans for the university.
  2. Provide regular management reports.
  3. Manage service providers ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  4. Develop a comprehensive energy management strategy aligned with university objectives.
  5. Set and align annual and long-term goals for energy efficiency and sustainability.
  6. Manage utilities including water, electricity, diesel, and gas, ensuring accurate billing and cost savings.
  7. Drive initiatives for resource efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, and compliance.
  8. Oversee utilities assessment, project delivery, and measurement of savings.
  9. Manage utilities infrastructure such as Solar PV plants.
  10. Ensure compliance with SHEQ standards and manage risk mitigation.
  11. Manage contractors and provide technical advisory and staff development.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6 or 7).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, utilities management, and project management.
  • Good communication, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of contract management and business reporting.
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • BMS, HVAC, generator, and substation maintenance
