Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Fiber Optic Network Planner for Upington, Northern Cape. You will lead survey work, design efficient fiber routes, and ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

The role requires a Civil/Electrical/Telecommunications engineering background with 3–5 years in fiber design, plus proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS). Upington-based with regional impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications), Geography, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fiber optic network design and planning.
• Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Strong understanding of fiber optic cable types, splicing techniques, testing methods, and network architecture.
• Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure deployment processes and regulations.
• Excellent spatial reasoning and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and documentation abilities.
• Experience in the Northern Cape, Upington, or similar regional contexts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys to assess existing infrastructure, identify potential routes, and gather data for network design.
• Design efficient and cost-effective fiber optic network layouts, including backbone, distribution, and access networks.
• Utilize CAD software and GIS tools to create detailed network design drawings and documentation.
• Estimate material requirements, labor costs, and project timelines for new fiber optic deployments.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, municipal regulations, and right-of-way requirements.
• Collaborate with construction teams, engineers, and external stakeholders to resolve design challenges and facilitate project execution.
• Review and approve construction drawings and plans submitted by contractors.
• Maintain accurate network inventory and asset management records.
• Identify opportunities for network optimization and future capacity planning.
• Stay updated on fiber optic technologies, planning tools, and best practices.
