Job summary

Hire Resolve is seeking an experienced Unit Manager for Dolphin Coast/Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. The role oversees ICU patient care, staff performance, and governance compliance to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate holds a Diploma in General Nursing or B Cur with a post-basic Critical Care Nursing qualification and SA nursing registration. At least 3–5 years in ICU and 1 year in a supervisory role are required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in General Nursing or B Cur degree with SA nursing registration.
  • Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing is essential.
  • Additional qualification in Nursing Management is advantageous.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of ICU nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year in a management or senior supervisory role within a hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee delivery of safe, cost-effective, quality patient care in line with governance standards.
  • Evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes to identify improvements.
  • Coordinate training and mentoring of nursing staff to enhance skills.
  • Monitor staff performance, attendance, and unit coverage.
  • Manage unit activities and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and healthcare legislation.
  • Control drug use and emergency stock per regulatory standards.
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities and develop patient care strategies.
  • Participate in National Core Standards and other quality initiatives.
  • Conduct patient rounds to ensure high customer-centric care.
  • Foster relationships with medical staff, management, patients, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate care plans and progress with patients and families.

Job description

Hire Resolve Client is looking for an experienced Unit Manager to join their team inDolphin Coast/Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and ensure the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and quality patient care in line with clinical governance standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate training, development, and mentoring programs for nursing staff to enhance their skills and professional growth.
  • Monitor staff performance, manage attendance, and ensure adequate coverage in the unit at all times.
  • Manage unit activities, including addressing irregularities and policy violations, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, policies, and relevant healthcare legislation.
  • Control and monitor the use of drugs and emergency stock in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement and develop strategies to enhance patient care services.
  • Participate in the implementation of National Core Standards and other quality initiatives.
  • Conduct patient rounds regularly to ensure a high standard of customer-centric service.
  • Foster effective working relationships with medical practitioners, hospital management, patients, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding care plans and progress.
Requirements
  • Diploma in General Nursing or a Bachelor of Nursing (B Cur) degree.
  • Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing is essential.
  • Additional qualification in Nursing Management is advantageous.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in ICU settings.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a management or senior supervisory role within a hospital environment.
