Job summary

Sanlam Risk & Savings, a division within SRA, offers Risk and Savings solutions to various market segments.

The role of the underwriter is to assess client risk based on their individual risk profile, considering insurable interest, occupation, medical, financial, part-time activities, and travel/territorial risk.

Core outputs:

  1. Underwrite risk applications considering the client’s overall risk profile, including previous and/or existing cover.
  2. Manage communication on sub-standard cases effectively.
  3. Request underwriting and limit requirements.
  4. Place cases according to reassurance treaty and guidelines.
  5. Enhance customer experience through clear, proactive communication and collaboration (written and telephonic).
  6. Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, AI, and analytics advancements.
  7. Build expertise in underwriting processes and technical skills.
What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification; relevant qualification is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years in medical and/or financial underwriting.
  • Experience with underwriting processes is advantageous.
  • Exposure to underwriting software/programs is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of underwriting and re-insurance policies is advantageous.
  • Experience in financial underwriting or business insurance is advantageous.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of prognosis of medical conditions.
  • Understanding medical terminology (anatomy and physiology).
  • In-depth knowledge of financial statements and questionnaires.

Note: The environment may require overtime during peak periods, depending on business needs.

The position is based in either Western Cape or Gauteng.
