Qualifications

  • 7 – 10 years’ experience as a Fitter with at least 5 - 7 years’ winder maintenance experience.
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience with Blair Multi Rope (BMR) Winders and associated equipment.
  • Conversant with the MHSA and the Minerals Act regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Repair breakdowns as they occur and assist with expansions and construction.

Job description

A well-established organisation in Gauteng is looking to expand their team and employ an Underground Winder Fitter. The main purpose of the role is to, in a safe manner, perform inspections and repairs within the mine, and to contribute to the team by prompting safety and standardisation of operation.

Your key responsibilities will include, but is not limited to :

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities.
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, manufacturing, and company standards.
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion.
  • Promote and develop teamwork to become an effective team member.
  • Ensure that condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted effectively.
  • Timely response to breakdown management, conduct appropriate root cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Repair breakdowns as they occur and assist with expansions and construction of new equipment or installations.
  • Responsible for winder control and mechanical systems, including but not limited to : Compressors, Shaft and Shaft Station control systems, updating of all mechanical documentation.
  • Exercise sound expert judgment with regards to repair versus replacement versus upgrade of components.
  • Align with planned maintenance schedules, including maintenance of relevant records for all winder and mechanical equipment and installations in the area of responsibility.
  • Perform all activities according to instructions, procedures, and engineering needs.
  • Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure.
  • Create and maintain job cards according to the SAP system and requirements.
  • Work overtime, standby, and be available for call-outs should the need arise.
  • Accomplished personal safety track record.
  • Conversant with the MHSA and the Minerals Act regulations in terms of shafts, winders, conveyors, etc.
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills.
  • Independent, proactive thinker with the ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in the mechanical maintenance of winder installations.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of winder control and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of mechanical installations.
  • Proven track record of production achievements.

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Relevant Fitter Trade Certificate.
  • 7 – 10 years’ experience as a Fitter with at least.
  • 5 - 7 years’ winder maintenance experience, on both.
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience Blair Multi Rope (BMR) Winders as well as Double and Single Drum Winders and associated equipment.
