Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a high-calibre Driver to prepare vehicles for trips and operate heavy-duty vehicles. Please refer to the minimum requirements, duties, and responsibilities below for further information.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles for trips, including heavy-duty documentation from dispatch to the customer and back to the distribution centre.
• Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips for all goods transported to the customer.
• Operate heavy-duty vehicles safely.
• Prepare vehicles for trips.
• Follow all instructions from the supervisor.
• Work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Maintain a safe driving record and a clean criminal record.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 10 Literacy level.
• Possession of a valid Code 14 driver’s license.
• Valid PrDP (EC1).
• At least 5 years of articulated driving experience in bulk chemical transport, including both semi-trailer and double combination (semi pub).
• Long-distance and cross-border driving experience.
• Medically fit.
• Clean criminal record.
• Defensive driving skills.
• Experience with Eaton Fuller and ZF gearboxes.
• Knowledge of vehicle components and their functions.
• Understanding of the Road Traffic Act.
• Ability to operate in various weather, road, and traffic conditions.
• Knowledge of emergency reporting procedures and defect reporting.
• Vehicle inspection skills and fire extinguisher operation.
• Ability to maximize vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
• Knowledge of vehicle loading techniques.
